• Stem Cell Therapy

A recent cutting-edge development in veterinary medicine is the use of stem cell therapy to enhance healing and support a greater quality of life. Dr. Knehr, a Vet-Stem credentialed veterinarian, is excited to offer adult stem cell therapy to his patients.

Stem cell therapy uses regenerative cells to heal injuries to tissues. Vet-Stem Regenerative Cells (VSRCs) are your pet's own cells that help regenerate injured tissues. These VSRCs are derived from your pet's fat, thus are referred to as adult stem cells.

Current uses for VSRCs include treatment for the following:
    • Arthritis—Improving pets' mobility and decreasing the need for pain medications
    • Tissue repair—Tendon and ligament repair, partial tears
Four Simple Steps to Vet-Stem Cell Therapy for Your Pet:
    1. Consult with your Sun City veterinarian for a full history and examination of your pet; lab-work, radiographs, and other diagnostic tests may need to be performed prior to Vet-Stem Cell Therapy.
    2. Your veterinarian collects a small fat sample (about 2 teaspoons) from your pet under anesthesia and the sample is shipped overnight to the Vet-Stem laboratory.
    3. Vet-Stem first processes the fat sample and concentrates the VSRCs, and then the cells are shipped back to your veterinarian overnight.
    4. Your veterinarian injects the VSRCs directly into the injured site.
Prior to making a decision regarding treatment with Vet-Stem Cell Therapy, pet owners are encouraged to discuss the following information with your Sun City veterinarian. We believe that well-informed clients make the best decisions for their pets.
